Fading Frames
My Senior Thesis at Pratt Institute is about our disconnection with ourselves. Digital photo overload has diminished the nostalgic charm of our printed photos. Printing is essential to evoke nostalgia, connecting viewers with our memories, emotions, and history. Our abundance of digital photos often leads to neglect, eroding our appreciation for their deeper meaning.
Through my thesis I collected images from my participants in questionnaires to use throughout my exploration. I had a question asking, “Does a physical photo hold more personal value to you than a photo stored on your phone?” I was lucky to have 60+ people participate, and not one of them answered “No.”
At the Pratt Design Show, I created small photo albums with access to resources to get pictures from your phone printed. I wanted to encourage people to make a gift or a collection of memories. Hopefully to spark the interest in keeping our memories physical, and therefore valuable.
